Explore the collection of modules by task cluster, effective mathematics teaching practice, or mathematics focus. Each two-hour module is designed around a rich task and a video clip from a real mathematics classroom.

I learned how to better elicit student responses to visual patterns. I have played around with visual patterns before, but could never get students beyond a point of “It adds 4 dots each time.” VIM gave me ideas for good questions to ask and ways to get students out of their seats and talking.

I learned that there are many ways to represent linear functions and patterns, many of which I never thought about. I also learned that the way you launch a task, ask questions during and after a task, and help students make connections between different representations has a big impact on student learning.
